day 18: i have researched on how to highlight texts and apparently it turned out pretty good. so this is my second draft of my contents page. yesterday was a struggle on how to get the texts to been seen through the various colours of the background. Tuesday, November 24, 2015

day 17: i have to admit. i'm getting pretty good at this. although sometimes my goals takes longer than it has to. but i have looked at a lot of examples on basketball magazines and i noticed they sometime use an object for a letter so that is what i did on my contents page. the ball is suppose to be the 'O' in the words content. through out this 7 days, i've learned how to download fonts therfore i have applied my new skills to this artwork. now i will add some finishing touches or what people call them "the icing on the cake."

day 10: i have been awake for 72 hours learning and reading every fundamentals and basics. i am now like the micheal jordan of photoshop. not really. on a serious note i think i got far from where i started and i feel like the bill gates of photo editing. but i don't think this is going to be my final form since some of my friends don't think it would suit my audience. i am now learning to download fonts; i will come back bigger, stronger and faster.Sunday, November 15, 2015
day7: the struggle is real. the last progress lead to a dead end. this is the new one. i have decided to make in black and white to go for that vintage theme but kept the ball and the blue stripes in colour since they were the only two colours that stood out the most. the masthead has been added to the progress and things are going good going great. now i will add the rest of the fundamentals.

day 3: i have gone far from where i started, but its not enough. i still havn't figured out how to photo shop a ball and make it small to put in this picture. i am still struggling to use photoshop. i have no idea how long it will take me to figure it out, how long will it take to finish the whole magazine but i will complete it. i am planning to put the mast head soon when i figure out how to put the text behind the image.

my titles ;)
Now i have 5 titles that i thought fresh out of my head. Literally i thought of this the first thing out of bed.
Now the first title is not 'forty three'. See it is actually 'four three', its a play on words when its on TV, the commentator will say ex: "Kobe Bryant FOR THREE!". So i used 4 3 as a title because i thought it was pretty clever. But let me explain more behind the meaning, so you could know better. Since this also for academic thats why its in numerals instead of words. It can be related to math that can be first, and it is very short and simple now thats another perk. But theres another deep meaning that is key. Life means 42 according to 'The Hitchiker's guide to the Galaxy'. So this is one up since its 4 3, Basketball means more than life, now thats according to me.
This is another title, this says 'splash'. It is when some one shoots and it goes down the hatch. Mostly its when the ball hits nothing but net, it makes a soft sound like water, thats why its called that i bet.
It is also a reference to a youtuber called Chris Smoove. He makes basketaball games videos and surprisingly it is pretty soothe. And every time he would shoot never to think about pass, but it goes in everytime and thats when he says 'Splash'.
The next one is acronym for 'thats all she wrote' it is said when the game is finished the one who wins is the host. And this also relates to school because it has the word wrote it in. However, the title seems a bit soft and kind, thats why its the weakest one out of the five.
Alright, lets get serious for a second. The last two is my finalists. Play ball is an expression that is used all around the world. It means to do something, or to cooperate. Thats why it is clever because it can be used metaphorically and/or literally. Playing ball in studies and playing ball in the court. And i like it how it is very simple, it is just two words that means a thousand more.
The last one i felt proud of because i thought of this one myself. What 'no look pass' means is that in basketball, in order to make a 'no look pass' is that you have to have confidence because you're passing to your team mate without you looking at the ball nor your team mate. And to apply that to academic terms is that you are very confident when you do a test or an exam that you walk out not looking back knowing that you already passed.Wednesday, October 14, 2015
moodboard
this is a mood board for my next magazine. It will focus on high school and college basektball. It will be a masterpiece. I will be like the steve jobs of AS level media.
In this moodboard there are a few pop ups. One is 'we are all witnesses', it is one of NIKE's famous slogan mostly used by a famous basketball player name LeBron James. The others are brands and schools that are famous for playing basketball.
this will help me set the overall tone of the magazine.

The heading for this page is SLAMADAMONTH. If we read it fast it sounds like Slam of the month. The colour of the title is red and blue. Same as the colour of the jerseys. It is also been placed at the bottom to let the attention be on the picture.
The layout is basically a big image to almost fill the whole two page and a little box which has 5 columns. The small columns talks about how Lance Stephenson feels about another player.

Sports Illustrated is an American sports media franchise owned by Time Inc. Its self-titled magazine has over 3 million subscribers and is read by 23 million people each week, including over 18 million men. It was the first magazine with circulation over one million to win the National Magazine Award for General Excellence twice. Its swimsuit issue, which has been published since 1964, is now an annual publishing event that generates its own television shows, videos and calendars.
Time Inc. is an American New York-based publishing company. It publishes over 90 magazines, most notably its namesake, Time. Other magazines include Sports Illustrated, Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Fortune, People, InStyle, Life, Golf Magazine, Southern Living, Essence, This Old House, All You, Real Simple, and Entertainment Weekly. It also owns the UK magazine house Time Inc. UK, whose major titles include What's On TV, NME, Country Life, Marie Claire, Wallpaper* and InStyle. Time Inc also operates the digital-only titles MyRecipes, TheSnug, and MIMI.
The age group they target would be all around because people of all age enjoy sports and they would want to be updated on their favorite team. This would be a target for mostly male audiences since it also has a swimsuit edition where half naked girls in bikini are featured. People who read this magazine would obviously be into sports. A description of a person who reads these type of magazine would often wear jerseys of the sport that they like, also a hat of the team. Gather up with friends on the weekend to watch a game and probably is pretty competitive.

The Rolling Stone magazine is a magazine that primary focuses on pop culture. It was founded by Jann Wenner in San Francisco in 1967. Jann Wenner by the way, is still the publisher. The magazine was first known for musical coverage. But in the 1990s, the magazine shifted its focus on to a younger readership interested in younger films, music, etc. In recent years, the magazine has resumed its traditional mix of content.
Jann Wenner named his magazine after a Bob Dylan song. He then later stated in the first issue that the tile of magazine referred to the 1950 blues song, "Rollin' Stone". Rolling Stone initially identified with and reported the 'hippie counter culture of the era'. Jann Wenner wrote that Rolling Stone is not about the music but about the things and attitudes that music embraces.
1980s. The magazine began to shift towards being a general "entertainment" magazine. Music still a dominant topic, but there was increasing coverage of celebrities in TV, films and pop culture of the day.
Some artists have been on the cover many times, some of the pictures become incredibly iconic. The Beatles is a good example. They have appeared on the cover more than 20 times, either individually or as a band. There are more notable artist in the first ten issues like John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Eric Clapton and other famous people.
The Rolling Stone are produced in many countries and have multinational editions and it continues to become a big sale until today.

made up content page
The Masthead is called 'The Lair'. Since the front cover is called blue dragons, i thought it would be clever to call the content the lair since a lair is where a dragon stays at. So basically the content page is where all the magic happens. It is in that color because it relates to the 'Blue Dragons'. The font is suppose to look like a old style kind of writing to seem like the old times since dragons are a mythical belief.
The main image is of the same guy in the front cover but now is a school uniform to show the contrast between work and play. The background is a rock kind of background to show a theme of
a lair. Marc looks like he's working hard too.
The lay out is seperated into two columns. one is the row of the contents and the other is just the main image. The text also doesn't over lap the image.
The first content is a cursive text, like a king would use. it is to kind of to show that champions are like king. also champion is in gold because of 1st.
The second and third is just a generic font but IGCSE is in red because most kids would view exams as horror.
The last font is like a gangster kind of font and is in red to represent fire and fierce.
All of the contents are about the school.
If i would do it again i would master my photoshop skills. I would carefully pick the layout and colouring of the texts. Choose an image that represents deeply into the school's soul. The next time i would do this it will be better if not the best. i would be like the James Cameron of magazine.

In this magazine cover that i made, it is based on the school's basketball team. The majority of the school tends to lean towards playing basketball than any other sport. So thats why i decided to go with a sporty theme.
So on the front cover, i decided to make the masthead blue because the basketball team is called the Blue Dragons. It has a reflection effect to make it look like it has a mirror image on the floor. The slogan is 'More than just education'. It sounds good and it makes it sound like there is more to learning in school, not only will we receive education but we will get to experience being in a basketball team.
The main image is a shirtless person holding on to a basketball. The reason he is not wearing a shirt is to show off the physique that he has from basketball training. Its only one half of him because its to show one side of him is basketball and the other half is about school. The reflection of the sun around his eye is to show that like he is a gift from god and that he is really good in basketball. The basketball hoop is beside his head to show that basketball is on his mind all day everyday.
The mode of address is that he is staring at us at and equal level. To show that even though he is a leader he is willing to face anyone that challenges him.
The anchorage text is suppose to grabs the attention of the reader because Traill's basketball fans know that since there's a lot of phillipine players in the team, everyone is trying to be the best and the leader so with Marc saying that how he feels like he is the leader with the quote of him working the hardest.
I think i did pretty good for my first try. However, i finished this front cover in like 30 minutes. How i would improve it is that i would choose the right fonts for the text because as we can see, the out line of the texts are pretty think and are unclear. I would spend longer time experimenting with my fonts and colors. I would be like the modern Pablo Picasso on magazine.

The title on this content page is 'I'm the mix'. I'm not sure magazine this content page is from so i'm going to guess what 'I'm the mix' mean. i guess in the content page has a lot of numbers and the magazine is about 50 cent so the numbers mix so hes saying that he is the mix.
This content page is divided into two big columns. The main image is 50 cent looking back to suggest that he is in front and looking back as us. He is also wearing a black and baggy shirt, like a typical gangster.
And the first content is on page 50 a reference to his name.
I don't think theres much to say about this magazine as it looks pretty plain.

this is actually the second content page of the magazine because it says 'the B-side'. The first one would be 'the A-side'. XXL considers themselves to be a very unique magazine because they claim to be 'above the trend' so they transition by saying that the contents are a 'side'. Its also sounds very casual, makes it look like the magazine is your friend. The Masthead is still on the right of the magazine to remind the readers that it is still
XXL magazine that we are still reading incase we forgot.
This content page is divided into 3 columns. But two pictures already took up 2 columns because these two pictures are what the magazine wants you to be interested in. The first image is Masika Kalysha, I never heard of her but she was the first thing i saw when i saw the content page. So what the content page is doing worked. Eye candy means a image that is superficially attractive so in the magazine the reader can get an insight on the beauty. She is in lingerie lying down to show her "nasty" side.
The other picture is a rapper name Maino, he claims to be the king of Brooklyn. He poses like he is praying. The background is black and he is wearing a white tank top to make him the spot light of the picture.
The last column are two small pictures are small because they are not suppose to be the main focus of this magazine. One is of an artist that wears white in a blue backgroud. White represents class and 'swag'. The other is a picture of Beastie boys, it is in black and white because the band was formed in 1981 which is a long time representing the classics.
This magazine are mostly for late teens and adults because as we can see in the layout that it more of a formal kind of layout. And there are some of the artist that i and maybe some other teens might not know.
